I have been in Alice Springs since Saturday. It is full of surprises. Small. Friendly. Very multifaceted. A lot of cool stuff going on. A lot of huge problems.

For one thing, it has rained almost all the time I have been here. The river has water in it.

I am still very much feeling my way. I have met a few people. I am staying in a very dodgy backpackers, but moving to a less dodgy one tomorrow. I have started doing the touristy stuff.

Pretty spectacular really. The plants are all flowering because of the rain. Today I visited the Olive Pink Botanic Gardens.

Tomorrow I am going to move house, and then go to the reptile park. I will also check out some of the shops and galleries in town. I have already been sorely tempted by the paintings being sold in the street, but have not succumbed.

I am going out to Uluru on Wednesday, on a bus tour.
